Genetic engineering does more harm than good, what is your opinion?

In the future years, genetic engineering may be the best biological to prolong the life. I think that it is possible to benefit mankind worldwide with genetic engineering.

One benefit of the genetic engineering is producing more and better crops that are more resistant to pests and diseases than normal crops. Besides, more productive farm animals that are resistant to disease, like Dolly, the first cloned mammal can be produced.

Moreover, genetic engineering can also help human beings to treat degenerative diseases. For example, usually a donor’s blood must be the same as the patient’s blood group. But with genetic engineering, the patient’s blood can be regenerated. Similarly, it might also used to grow transplant specific organs in the laboratory. Thus, there will be no need for donors.

Despite these benefits, there are many misgivings or drawbacks may have more harm than good. Genetically modified food causes degenerative diseases in mice. Thus, it may harm man who consuming such food.

Besides this reason, the cloned animals such as Dolly, age prematurely and have shorter life spans. In addition, genetic engineered microorganisms may also be used for biological warfare.

The cloning of human beings in considered and ethically wrong. Furthermore, it takes a lot of time grow organs, bones and other substances for transplant. Thus, it is not very practical.
I believe that genetic engineering of human body parts is possible despite the drawbacks in future.
